Sabine River Fishing

Sabine River Fishing Camp--I went fishing with Glen, Henry, Austin and our friend Micheal Butler. We all had a great time and caught lots of fish. We caught most of them on the trotlines Glen set out, but I also caught a few from the bank. The river was up pretty good most of the weekend, and started to go down again by the time we left. It was hot and humid, but the fishing camp had AC, so we weren't roughing it too much. Enjoy the pictures.

The river was high, but not flooding while I was there. There were quite a few logs and tree limbs and other floatasm on much of the river.

Lake Brauning Catch

Lake Brauning, May 12, 2010-Finally caught some nice fish out at Lake Brauning. Augie and I rented a boat Wednesday and did OK. I caught two keeper redfish, both weighing in at about 6 pounds. I also caught (as you can see in the photo to the right) a nice sunburned face. We also caught quite a few striped bass, but not big enough to keep. I caught a catfish as well, hoping to one day go and get the trifecta of redfish, striper and catfish.

Augie poses with redfish during weigh-in.
Another nice redfish. Crawfish tail and shrimp seemed to be the bait of choice. The striped bass were going for liver in an agressive manner, we just couldn't find the big ones.
Three pound catfish. Umm.

Augie gets gets ready for the fish cleaning. Always a pleasant task at the end of a long afternoon.

Russell and Darrell with a very nice catch from Lake Livingston (I Presume) TX. Looks like fishing in the cold weather does pay off sometime.

Lake Bastrop, Comal River Bass

Augie and I went fishing out at Lake Bastrop last Sunday, I caught a very nice largemouth on the South Shore Park, right off of the boat ramp. I was in the float tube, and caught it just off of the channel that runs off of the boat ramp. There is a 14-21" slot limit at Bastrop, so I was unable to keep the fish. Augie took a picture, so hopefully I can get it posted soon.

If anyone is considering going to Lake Bastrop, please make sure you bring your license and remember the slot limit, the Game Warden was checking us out for both.

I have been fishing Steve's place pretty hard the last ten days or so, and usually get at least one out of his section of the Comal River. I caught a keeper today, 15 1/2", one pound, 10 ounces. I will try again tomorrow in the float tube. I know there are some 4 and 5 pound bass in that stretch of water, I will keep trying till I get it right!
